This is a book review of An Introduction to Galaxies and Cosmology edited by Mark H. Jones, Robert J. A. Lambourne and Stephen Serjeant. The book is an undergraduate-level introduction to the Milky Way, other galaxies, and cosmology. Covering all the material in this book would probably take a year at the usual pace of an undergraduate course. There is also a companion volume, An Introduction to the Sun and Stars, by Simon F. Green and Mark H. Jones. The book makes a busy impression, in a positive sense. Only a minority of the pages consist of only text. The text is very up-to-date, including discussion of such current topics as results from Planck, the multiverse, and high-resolution numerical simulations. I wholeheartedly recommend this excellent book to anyone interested in a detailed introduction to galaxies and cosmology, from the Milky Way to the multiverse.
